Frequently Asked Questions on Fire Protection (FP)
Every employer and building operator is required to ensure fire protection, regardless of the size of the company or the industry. Vyplýva zo zákona č. 314/2001 Z. z. on fire protection. Among other things, the employer is required to regularly train employees on fire protection, maintain fire protection documentation, and ensure regular inspections of fire safety equipment. The scope of further obligations depends on the specific building and conditions.
It includes the comprehensive fulfillment of all legal obligations in the field of fire protection — preparation and maintenance of fire protection documentation, regular employee training, preventive fire safety inspections, checks of fire extinguishers and hydrants, and representation during inspections by the Fire and Rescue Service. The service is provided by an authorized fire protection technician (TPO) — an individual holding a valid certificate issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.
The Fire and Rescue Service may impose a fine of up to EUR 16,596 for violating fire protection obligations. In the event of a fire caused by inadequate fire protection measures, the operator also becomes liable for damage to property and health. Regular and properly maintained fire protection is therefore not only a legal obligation, but also a safeguard for the company.
